Drawing wonderful poetic parallels between the beauty of nature and the beauty of music, Music in the Mountains pairs rich text with flowing melody and accompaniment. It was written by Craig Curry and Patti Drennan in honor of Lew Kirby, retired Director of Sacred Publications at Shawnee Press who has been an integral part of Shawnee Press’s annual Music in the Mountains conference. The vivid imagery in this choral embodies the refreshment and renewal that is often achieved when marrying music and nature. Use as a quiet beginning or meditative ending to your concert. It also includes alternate text for use in sacred settings.
An SAB voicing is available here.
Within each human heart there is a song
To give us hope and help to make us strong
When we see creation's beauty
The starry night, the rising sun
The song begins and our voices rise as one
Every race of people hears the melody
A song sung by the wind upon the trees
The heavens declare this glory
Day after day their voices raise
And we'll join their mighty chorus
Lost in wonder, love, and praise
There is music in the mountains
And a song upon the hill
A song of praise and adoration
And we hear its echo still
It reaches from the valley
And it spreads across the plain
Calling one and all to join the sweet refrain
There is no language where there voice is not heard
No ear that cannot understand
We hear it growing and our hearts are stirred
All creation sings across the land
(chorus)
Won't you heed the call and join the sweet refrain
Music in the mountains (creation sings)
Music in the mountains (creation sings) (I hear the melody)
Music in the mountains (creation sings)
Music in the mountains (creation sings) (I hear the melody)
